Automod

Rules Naeris checks on every message, so your staff doesn't have to. A message that breaks one is deleted and its author gets a strike, or a sanction straight away if you chose one for that filter.

Naeris needs
Manage Messages · Timeout Members · Manage Server

Edited messages are checked again, so nobody can post something clean and edit it afterwards. Members who can manage messages are skipped: try a message on the dashboard, or test with your own account by turning on Also check staff messages (see Exceptions).

Blocked words

Type a word and press Enter. How it matches depends on the stars:

You writeIt catches
wordthe whole word only
word*words that start with it
*wordwords that end with it
*word*any text that contains it

Accents and capitals don't matter: cafe catches Café.

  • Block them before they're sent copies the list into Discord's own AutoMod. The message never shows up at all, instead of being deleted a moment later. Naeris needs Manage Server for this.
  • Check names too renames members whose name contains a blocked word or pattern.
  • Patterns (regex) are for the cases words can't cover, like free\s+nitro. A pattern that takes too long to check on a message is skipped rather than slowing the bot down.
  • Remove links removes every web link, invites included. Sites still allowed lists the domains that stay (youtube.com lets www.youtube.com and m.youtube.com through too).
  • Sites always blocked are removed even when links are allowed. That is the way to block a handful of sites without banning links.
  • Remove invites to other servers removes Discord invites, except the ones to your own server and the Invite codes still allowed.
  • Scam links checks links against a list of known phishing and fake Nitro sites, updated twice a day. It doesn't count a strike: the Sanction you pick (timeout, kick or ban) is applied at once, since these come from hacked accounts.

Spam

Leave a number at 0 to turn that check off.

  • Same link in several channels: the same message with a link, posted in another channel within 3 seconds. The classic hacked-account spam.
  • Messages allowed … in this many seconds: flood. 5 messages in 5 seconds is a good start.
  • Same message repeated: how many times the same text can be sent within a minute.
  • Mentions per message: @everyone and @here always count.
  • Report ghost pings: posts a note when a message with mentions is deleted right after it was sent, so people know who pinged them.

Message shape

Again, 0 turns a check off.

  • Capitals (%): the share of capital letters, only on messages of 10 letters or more, so "OK" or "LOL" pass.
  • Emojis per message, Characters per message, Lines per message.
  • Zalgo text: letters buried under stacked accents.
  • Files and images: removes every message with an attachment. Use it on text-only channels, with ignored channels for the others.
  • Formatting to remove: code blocks, masked links ([text](link)), headings, spoilers.

Trap channel

A channel nobody should write in, like a #do-not-post at the top of the list. Bots and hacked accounts that post everywhere land there and get the Sanction on the spot (a ban by default). Tell your members in the channel name or topic, and hide it from nobody: it only works if it is visible.

Sanction per filter

By default every filter counts a strike. In Sanction per filter, each active filter can instead apply a sanction right away: Warn (like /warn), Time out (24 hours), Kick or Ban. If a message breaks several filters at once, the heaviest sanction wins.

A sensible setup: strikes for caps and emojis, a timeout for flood, a ban for the scam-link and trap filters.

Strikes

Under Strikes, choose how many strikes a member can collect (10 by default) and the Action at that point: timeout, kick or ban. The count goes back to zero once the action is applied. Strikes are separate from the warnings given with /warn.

Exceptions and log

  • Ignored channels and Ignored roles are never checked.
  • Log channel receives every deletion with the rule that triggered it. Empty, it uses the mod-log.
  • Also check staff messages removes the exemption for members with Manage Messages. Turn it on to test your rules with your own account, then off again.

Trying a message

Try a message, at the bottom of the page, runs a message through the rules as they are on screen, saved or not: which filters catch it, whether it would be deleted, and the sanction or strikes it would get. Nothing is posted and nobody is sanctioned, so you can tune a word list or a regex before turning it on. Spam, flood and repeated messages depend on earlier messages, so they can't be tried this way.

Recent catches

Recent catches lists what the automod caught in the last 30 days: who, where, which filters, what happened to the message and the sanction or strikes. Click a name to see only that member. Test sends the message to Try a message, to check what your rules on screen would do to it now: handy to fix a false positive. Only members who can manage messages see the list.

The dashboard covers everything above. The commands only do the basics:
